What an incredible bookstore! The owner, Jim, was so nice and filled with amazing stories. Jim Reed Books / Museum of Fond Memories is, without question, the most wonderfully unhinged store I have ever visited.
Calling it a bookstore feels wildly inadequate. It's more like someone took every book ever printed, stacked them floor-to-ceiling, added decades of fascinating memorabilia, antiques, oddities, collectibles, and historical treasures, then somehow made it all fit under one roof.
Every time you turn a corner, you find something that makes you say, "Wait... what IS that?" We spent half our visit browsing and the other half pointing at random things and laughing.
The best part? The owners. They were absolutely hilarious and took time to engage with every member of our family, from the kids to the adults. You can tell they genuinely love the store and the stories behind everything in it.
What started as a quick stop turned into one of our favorite experiences in Birmingham. Every single one of us found something unique to take home, which is saying a lot considering the ages and interests in our group couldn't be more different.
If you love books, history, antiques, weird stuff, cool stuff, or just experiencing something completely unlike anywhere else, do not miss this place. It's part bookstore, part museum, part treasure hunt, and 100% unforgettable.
Just be warned: you may walk in looking for one book and leave three hours later carrying a stack of books, a vintage treasure, and several stories you'll be telling for years. 📚😂🏺✨
